The phosphoinositide pathway converts a membrane phospholipid into two second messengers, diacylglycerol and inositol triphosphate, when a G-protein-linked receptor activates the enzyme phospholipase C.
Watch for
Diacylglycerol and inositol triphosphate come from the same cleavage event but act through separate downstream targets — one at the membrane, one released into the cytoplasm.
