State
Predation is an interaction where a predator kills and consumes another organism, the prey, while herbivory is the analogous interaction where an animal consumes plant tissue.
Show
A wolf killing a deer is predation; a caterpillar eating leaf tissue without killing the plant is herbivory.
Watch for
Herbivory usually does not kill the plant, unlike predation's typical outcome for the prey consumed.
