Osmosis is the diffusion of water across a selectively permeable membrane, toward the side with lower water concentration relative to dissolved solute.

When a membrane blocks solute but separates two different solute concentrations, water crosses toward the side with more solute.
Watch for
Osmosis moves water specifically; the solute driving that movement never crosses the membrane.
