State

Several organs whose main role is non-endocrine also secrete hormones: the heart releases atrial natriuretic peptide, the kidneys release renin, the gut releases gastrin and secretin.

Show

Atrial natriuretic peptide, released when the heart's atria stretch under high blood volume, lowers sodium reabsorption.

Watch for

A secondary endocrine role does not make an organ part of the primary gland set, though its hormone enters circulation.
